Diamonds, the Four C's-Cut
There are four main things to consider when considering buying a diamond; Cut, Clarity, Carat and Color. Here we are discussing the cut of a diamond and what that means exactly for you the buyer. The cut refers to how a raw diamond is styled so it can then be polished. It does not refer to the overall shape the diamond eventually becomes such as a pear shape or an oval. How a diamond is cut will depend on the brilliance on the diamond overall. If the cut is good then the brilliance of the diamond will be fantastic; likewise, if the diamond is poorly cut the brilliance of it will be reduced.
There are several different diamond cuts that have been developed since the Middle Ages. Each year new cuts are developed as technology is quickly changing and becoming computerized for purer cutting for total brilliance and shine. When considering cuts of diamonds you need to understand how many facets are created in a symmetrical design which creates the brilliance, helps shape the overall cut and the overall appearance. It is rare nowadays for a diamond to be cut by hand as computer technology has now taken over this process. Laser cutting is more precise and because you can play around on a computer using computer aided design, new and updated cuts are being created every day. These cuts can now provide diamond cutters with minimal waste, high performance, full complexity and mathematical genius brilliance.
Currently the most in demand diamond cut is the brilliant round modern cut as the arrangement and proportion of the facets are simply perfect. Other cuts known as fancy cuts are modified brilliant round cuts which include navette, heart, triangular, pear and oval which is also known as modified brilliants.
